Most promotions into management come without a manual. We fix that. Our training programmes give new and experienced managers the specific skills they need to lead teams, run meetings that produce decisions, and handle difficult conversations without losing sleep.

We started Effective Manager Classes because we kept seeing the same pattern: talented individual contributors get promoted, handed a team, and left to figure it out. Six months later, the team is frustrated, the new manager is burnt out, and HR is fielding complaints.
Our trainers have each spent at least twelve years managing teams of between five and forty people across sectors like financial services, healthcare operations, and technology delivery. They teach from experience, not theory.
Every programme we run is capped at sixteen participants. That limit exists so each person gets direct feedback on their own scenarios, not generic case studies from a textbook published in 1998.
Practical programmes for every management stage
A two-day intensive for people in their first management role. Covers delegation, one-to-one meetings, giving feedback that changes behaviour, and setting expectations without micro-managing. Participants leave with a 90-day plan tailored to their actual team.
A one-day workshop focused entirely on the conversations managers dread: underperformance, missed deadlines, attitude problems, and salary discussions. We rehearse each conversation type with trained actors who push back realistically.
Managing distributed teams requires different habits. This programme covers asynchronous communication norms, running remote meetings that people actually pay attention to, spotting disengagement early, and building trust without corridor chats.
When two team members clash, the manager usually hears about it last. This half-day session teaches structured mediation techniques, how to document issues properly, and when to escalate to HR versus handling it yourself.
Designed for managers who have been in the role for two or more years and need to shift from task management to strategic contribution. We work through prioritisation frameworks, stakeholder mapping, and how to present proposals that get approved.
Six sessions over twelve weeks with a dedicated coach. Each session is 75 minutes. Between sessions, the manager works on specific assignments tied to their real challenges. We have seen managers reduce their weekly meeting load by 30% within the first month.
From enquiry to measurable improvement
We spend 30 minutes understanding your team structure, the specific problems you want solved, and the outcomes you need to see within three months.
We select the right modules and adapt case studies to your industry. If you work in logistics, we use logistics scenarios, not generic examples.
Training happens on-site at your offices or at our facility in Scotland. Remote delivery is available for distributed teams across multiple time zones.
Four weeks after the programme ends, we run a 90-minute follow-up session. Participants report what they applied, what worked, and where they got stuck.
Feedback from recent programmes
I had been managing for three years before I took this course. Within a week of finishing, I restructured my one-to-ones and my team started raising issues earlier instead of letting them fester. Wish I had done this in year one.
Operations manager, Edinburgh
The performance conversations workshop was uncomfortable in the best way. Practising with actors who argued back made me far more confident when I had to deliver a real performance improvement plan the following week.
Team lead, financial services
We sent eight of our newly promoted managers through the foundations programme. The consistency in how they now run meetings and give feedback has been noticeable across the whole department.
